Obesity: what is the quality of the information available on pharmacological treatment on YouTube?

Obesity is a serious public health problem. The aim of the study was to evaluate the quality of Portuguese-language videos on obesity and pharmacological treatment with liraglutide and semaglutide on YouTube. A total of 89 videos were selected, and the Brief DISCERN tool was applied to assess content quality. Healthcare professionals were responsible for 68.5% of these videos. The majority of the videos were considered not useful (64%). Few videos provided evidence-based references and comprehensive information about the treatments, with a lack of information about potential risks of drug treatment and the impact of treatment options on patients’ quality of life. Even with the ease of access, the videos still inadequately address important topics related to pharmacological obesity treatment.
