Submission Preparation Checklist

As part of the submission process, authors are required to check off their submission's compliance with all of the following items, and submissions may be returned to authors that do not adhere to these guidelines.
  • The text must be unpublished and not have been submitted simultaneously to any other publication;
  • The text must be original, and will be rejected if there is conduct classified as plagiarism or self-plagiarism (greater than 30% of a text with the same authors), as described in the pre-publication policy: https://www.reciis.icict.fiocruz.br/index.php/reciis/about;
  • All authors must agree with the Reciis Authorship Policy;
  • All authors must be registered in the system.
  • There must be a justification in the “comments to the editor” field if the article has more than five authors;
  • The metadata for all authors must be correctly filled in during submission;
  • The cover page must be correctly filled in and submitted through the system;
  • Tables, charts and figures must be attached as a supplementary document, according to their type, during submission and also included throughout the manuscript as cited;

  • References must follow ABNT standards.
  • The manuscript must be in an open format and without identification — both in the text and in the file properties. (In Microsoft Office, the author's name must be removed from the document properties following the sequence: File > Save As > Tools (or Options on Mac) > Security Options > Remove personal information from file on save > OK > Save).
  • Ethics committee approval, when applicable, must be sent as a supplementary document at the time of submission;
  • The corresponding author should be indicated in the system on the list of co-authors of the submission as the primary contact;
  • The Declaration of Responsibility and Assignment of Rights must be completed, signed, and attached to the system as a supplementary document https://www.reciis.icict.fiocruz.br/index.php/reciis/libraryFiles/downloadPublic/208;

Author Guidelines

Before submitting your manuscript check the self-evaluation of content.

Cover Page

In order to implement the double-blind evaluation policy, identification data of all authors must be included only on the journal's Cover Page and in the submission metadata, and thus separate from the manuscript of the article as per the following guidelines. The cover page must: 

  • be downloaded and filled in.
  • contain the information for all authors.
  • provide all information on the article, such as authors' contributions, funding sources, conflicts of interest and ethics considerations.
  • match the original formatting of the document.
  • be saved in an uneditable format, such as .pdf or .xps.
  • be attached as a "Supplementary Document" during submission.
 

Declaration of Responsibility and Copyright Assignment

All authors must consent to the Declaration of Responsibility and Copyright Assignment, according to the following guidelines:

  • Must be downloaded and completed;
  • Must contain the information of all authors;
  • Must contain the electronic or digital signature of all authors;
  • Must be saved as a read-only document in .pdf and .xps format;
  • Must be attached as a "Supplementary Document" at the time of submission.

The document will be mandatory from September 23, 2024.

Metadata

During the act of submission, the metadata for all authors, as well as manuscript data like title, abstract and key words, must be correctly provided in the system, including the following information:

Authorship 

The order of authorship must be the same as that used in the submission system.

  • Name
  • E-mail address
  • Link for the Lattes curriculum
  • ORCID
  • Credentials (example: Ph.D. in Culture and Society from the Universidade Federal da Bahia)
  • Google Scholar
  • ResearchGate
  • Link to the institutional repository
  • Link to the site or blog for the research group
  • Link to the author’s site (if applicable)

Institutional affiliation

  • Institution names must be presented in full in the institution's original language, followed by city, state, and country information.
  • Do not place degrees and functions together with affiliations.
  • The identification of affiliations should be grouped, just below the names of authors, in different lines.
  • In case of a double institutional link of an author, present only the link in which the research was developed.
  • In cases of cooperation, links to the two institutions may be included. It should be emphasized that the first institution should be the most relevant.

Manuscript preparation

Articles can be prepared in english, spanish, portuguese and/or french and submitted in the following formats:

  • Write from the Libre Office or Word from MS Office .doc, .docx, .rtf, and .odt.
  • Manuscripts submitted in the following formats will not be considered .pdf and .xps. 

Details of the contribution of each author must be informed in the act of submission and will be published together with the study.

Formatting

  • A4 paper size (8.5 by 11 inches or 215.9 by 279.4 mm) with 2 cm (1 inch) margins on each side.
  • Arial Font, size 11.
  • 1.5 line spacing throughout the article, including abstracts and references.
  • Tables in single spacing and font size 10.

Identification

Title

  • Must be concise, informative, and without abbreviations.
  • Must be either Portuguese, English, Spanish or French.
  • Must not be in capital letters.

Abstract

  • Limited to 150 words.
  • Abstracts must be submitted either Portuguese, English, Spanish or French.

Keywords

  • Use five (5) keywords that represent the content of the article and facilitate information retrieval.
  • The keywords should be presented either Portuguese, English, Spanish or French just below the abstract in each language and must be separated by a semicolon.
  • We require the use of controlled vocabulary - such as the Medical Subject Heading (MeSH) and Brazilian Thesaurus for Information Science - or specify the vocabulary used.
  • The MeSH query can be performed at: https://meshb.nlm.nih.gov/search
  • The keywords indicated by the author will be analyzed.

Article information

  • Declaration of the author’s contribution as explained in the Authorship policy.

Article structure

  • Numerically flag subtitle’s hierarchy in the sections of the article.
  • Use bold font in titles and subtitles.
  • Capitalize only the first letter of titles and subtitles and in proper names.

Citations 

  • Reciis adopts the ABNT style for citation (NBR 10520). Manuscript submitted after 01/01/2021 must follow it to be considered for peer-review.

  • In citations, use the surname of the author, the responsible institution or title included in the sentence must be in upper and lower case. When made in parentheses, it must be in capital letters. 

  • Specify in the text the page(s), volume(s), or section(s) of the font consulted, in direct citations. These must follow the date, separated by commas and preceded by the term, in its abbreviated form, e.g. (WEITZEL, 2014, p. 67). In indirect citations, the indication of the page (s) consulted is optional. 

  • Direct citations in text, up to three lines, must be contained in double quotes. Single quotes are used to indicate quotation within the quotation.

  • Direct citations, in text, with more than three lines, must be receive a 4 cm indentation from the left margin, with a size 10 font and have the quotation marks removed. 

  • Whenever the citation includes translated text by the author, add the expression “translation ours” in parentheses.

Interview / subjects’ speeches / testimony

  • Must be italic, font size 10, 4 cm indented.
  • The speech identification should be coded, presented at the end of each sentence in parentheses and without italics.

Acronyms

  • Acronyms should be described in full the first time they appear in the text in parentheses.
  • They must be used the minimum necessary in tables and figures, described in full in footnotes using lowercase Roman numerals.

Footnotes

  • They must be used in an indispensable minimum number.
  • They should be indicated in the text by miniscule Roman numerals. Examplei

Tables and charts

  • They must be elaborated with the appropriate tool to construct tables or charts in Word, OpenOffice, or Writer.
  • They must not be submitted as images.
  • They should have informative and clear titles indicating what they intend to represent.
  • They should be inserted in the text subsequent to their citation and not at the end of the article.
  • The title should be displayed above the table or chart.
  • Tables must be open on the left and right sides.
  • Tables should not contain internal lines.
  • Tables must contain source indication. Indicate if written by the authors.

Figures

1.Graphs, drawings, flowcharts, diagrams, and schemes should be identified as figures:

  • They must have a title below them
  • They should have informative and clear titles indicating what they intend to represent.
  • They should be inserted in the text as cited and not at the end of the article
  • They must also be sent as supplementary files.
  • They must contain source indication. Indicate if written by the authors.

2.Photos should be identified as figures:

  • They must be legible and clear, with 100 dpi resolution, in black and white or color.
  • They must have a title below them.
  • They should have informative and clear titles indicating what they intend to represent.
  • They should be inserted in the text as cited and not at the end of the article.
  • They must also be sent as supplementary files.
  • Photos with identifiable persons must be authorized to use the image.
  • The photo's authorship must be indicated.       

References 

  • Reciis adopts the ABNT 6023/2018 standard for reference formatting. First names must be written in full to ensure visibility of female authorship.
  • All references must be cited in the text. Whenever available, the DOI of the consulted works should be provided.
  • If reference management software (e.g., Mendeley, Zotero, Endnote) has been used, the link to the software must be removed before submitting the manuscript to the journal.

Editorial

Editorials are texts that, in addition to introducing the edition, bring scientific content with the potential to receive citations and justify their indexation and publication.

Notes on current situations

These texts are meant to analyse (or comment) current situations in order to contribute to the deepening of topics related to the fields of communication, information, and health. They are limited to around 15,000 characters with spaces. By editors’ invitation only.

Dossiers

There are collections of original articles within subjects selected by editors that is insert in an edition in order to advance a debate, an idea or a field in relation to the overall aims of the journal. Limited to 40 to 60,000 characters with spaces. Seção aberta a submissões em períodos definidos em chamadas públicas. Indexed and peer-reviewed.

Dossier Healthcare information and communication management

Conjunto de artigos originais, relacionado a temas selecionados pelos editores e inserido em uma edição a fim de promover um debate, uma ideia ou um campo, em relação às temáticas de interesse da revista. Entre 40 e 60 mil caracteres com espaços. Seção aberta a submissões em períodos definidos em chamadas públicas. Seção indexada e avaliada pelos pares. 

Original articles

These are contributions intended to disseminate original research results with the following elements: object, objective, problem, theoretical-methodological basis, and clearly described results. Limited to 40 to 60,000 characters with spaces.

Interviews

These are contributions derived from interviews with authorities, specialists, or researchers whose life history or professional achievements are relevant to the fields of communication, information, and health. By editors’ invitation only.

Essays

These are analytical or propositional contributions with theoretical constructs leading to the questioning of existing models and allowing hypotheses for future research. Limited to 40 to 60,000 characters with spaces.

Review Articles

These are contributions intended to disseminate the state of the art of specific themes based on the critical bibliographical review of other publications. Limited to 40 to 60,000 characters with spaces.

Experience reports

These are contributions that describe situations in the practice of professionals or institutions. Limited to 30 to 50,000 characters with spaces.

Reviews of books and audiovisual productions

These are contributions that present a critical analysis of books or audiovisual productions. Limited to 15 and 25 thousand characters with spaces. Section open to ongoing submissions and indexed.
