At the beginning of her career, at the university, Professor Isaltina Gomes questioned why only the actions of the Rector's Office were publicized instead of research. Based on this question, she began a career in the area of scientific dissemination within the university and outside it. In an interview with Reciis, the professor and researcher tells how she began her science dissemination efforts at a time when the media were analog. She comments on the concepts discussed in this area and reports that, throughout history, public interest in research and the popularization of science occurred during wars, health emergencies and environmental problems. Therefore, she reinforces that scientific dissemination in Health and the Environment, especially, is fundamental for promoting the lives of the population. She also analyzes research trends in this field and recommends that research institutions be more present on online social networks. Isaltina Maria de Azevedo Mello Gomes is a full professor at the Federal University of Pernambuco (UFPE) and a member of the Advisory Committee for Scientific Dissemination of the CNPq.
